The client, a freelance photographer, had three years of wedding and commercial photography RAW files plus Lightroom catalogs on the drive. After the drop, the drive was powered on several times, causing further head and platter damage. The client contacted us via WhatsApp and shipped the drive by SF Express the same evening.
Step 1: Opened in a Class 100 cleanroom; head #0 was deformed and the platter had light scratches.
Step 2: Replaced with a matching donor head assembly and used PC-3000 UDMA/Express for DE intelligent imaging, skipping scratched areas.
Step 3: After 5 days of imaging, recovered approximately 120,000 RAW photos, Lightroom catalogs and 2.8 TB of video files.
The ERP server of a trading company lost two drives in its RAID 5 array. The IT team attempted a rebuild, which failed and further confused the array metadata. The database, accounting system and years of order records were inaccessible.
Step 1: Client shipped all four drives with slot labels. We created complete sector images of each drive first.
Step 2: Analyzed disk order, 64KB stripe size, Left-Synchronous parity rotation and validated with XOR checks.
Step 3: Virtually rebuilt the array, repaired minor SQL Server MDF corruption, and exported the full database and file server.
The designer had unbacked design drafts, source files and client materials. The Apple Store recommended a motherboard replacement and stated data could not be saved. The client walked in directly from Futian border.
Step 1: Removed the Apple proprietary NVMe module and found the controller chip thermally damaged.
Step 2: Used a BGA rework station to remove the NAND chips, read them with Flash Extractor and reverse-engineer the FTL mapping table.
Step 3: Recovered all design drafts and client files within 4 days.
The client accidentally deleted a WeChat conversation containing years of chat history, photos and voice messages with a deceased family member. The client was extremely anxious and came to the lab directly after contacting us on WhatsApp.
Step 1: Checked for iCloud/iTunes backups; none available.
Step 2: Performed low-level forensic imaging of the iPhone and scanned SQLite database remnants and unallocated space.
